Xbox One Startup Error E105 [Solved]

Xbox One Startup Error E105 is an error that occurs after an Xbox One update. In this post, we will go into what it is, what causes it, and of course how to fix this error.  This error shows up after you’ve tried to turn your Xbox One on and are then interrupted by this error and an accompanying message. This message reads something like, “Something went wrong”, followed by an error code and options for restarting and troubleshooting. This error is mostly encountered by Xbox users who’ve recently done a system update.

What causes this Start-up Error?

As mentioned before, this error is connected to a recent Xbox update. So there could be multiple things that might have gone wrong. Either the update did not finish, or did not occur properly, or some of the data has been corrupted and is now making issues like these.

How To Fix Start-up Errors?

1. Launching Xbox Trouble-shooter

You will most likely have to launch the Xbox trouble-shooter to fix any error codes that are stopping the Xbox from starting up. In most cases, this option is available on the screen under the “Something went wrong” message but sometimes the screen is stuck on the Xbox logo. So to access this option, follow the given instruction below:

Turn your console off completely. To do this, press the Xbox power button and then also remove all the cords.
Now, wait at least three minutes.
After that, re-attach the cords and re-plug your console to a power outlet. And turn the power button back on.
Now locate the bind button at the side of the Xbox and the eject button on the front of the Xbox.
This part is a little tricky, you have to press and hold down on the eject button and bind button at the same time.
And then also press the Xbox button.
The Xbox will then start to turn on, but still do not let go of the bind and eject button.
Wait until you hear the Xbox one start-up tones at least twice before you let go of the bind and eject buttons.
This will allow you to successfully launch the Xbox start-up trouble-shooter.

Now you can go ahead and try the following options to fix this issue.

2. Re-starting Xbox

Shutting off the Xbox and then restarting it is one of the most basic and easiest things you can try to do to fix this error. Follow the given steps to do so:

When you get his error, you’ll see the option for ‘re-starting this Xbox’.
But if you don’t then launch the Xbox Troubleshooter, you’ll get the option to ‘Turn off this Xbox’.
Click on this option.
And then after it shuts down, unplug the console from the power supply.
And then wait for a few minutes before you turn back on again.
Re-plug it to the power outlet and press the Xbox Power button to turn it back on.

If you still see this error after restarting your Xbox, then look at the solutions given below.

3. Resetting Xbox

This is oftentimes seen as the last resort as you’ll most likely end up losing all your saved data and most probably all of your games, including the game progress. But if you’ve tried everything and your Xbox still won’t start then you’ll have to reset it to the default factory setting. Here the following steps to do so:

You’ll be able to access the option for the ‘Reset Xbox’ option after you’ve launched the Xbox One Troubleshooter.
Click on it by pressing on it with the D button on your controller.
Now click on ‘Reset and Remove everything’.

This will allow the Xbox to completely reset and remove everything from the console.

4. Offline System Updating

After accessing the troubleshooter, you’ll get an option for starting an offline system update. This is a good option to see if it was a botched system update that was causing the error. Follow the steps below to update your system offline.

Step 1: Make sure you can access the offline update option by launching the Xbox One trouble-shooter. Follow the steps to do that:

Turn your console off completely.
Now wait at least three minutes and then turn it back on.

Step 2: After making sure you can access the offline update, follow the given instructions:

Go to your computer and plug-in a USB drive.
Make sure there are no other files on the USB drive.
Now download OSU2 or OSU3 file, depending on the build you’re using.
After it’s, finished downloading, unzip the downloaded file.
Now copy the system update from your .zip file to your USB drive.
Remember to copy files to the root directory.
Now unplug your flash drive.

Step 3: This is the last step after copying the update files to your USB flash drive:
