Roomba Error 19 | Unlock From Home Base [Solved]

If you use a Roomba for vacuuming, you are likely to encounter the error code 19. This error code may occur while when your Roomba is trying to unlock from the Home base. It is usually a result of obstacles blocking the Home base. This error stops your Roomba from navigating as expected.

Nonetheless, you can fix this error. This guide will review what this error is, its causes, and possible solutions for it.

What is Roomba Error 19?

This error code means that Roomba is facing some difficulties with undocking from the Home base. This difficulty is usually due to obstructions on the Roomba’s navigation path. When this error occurs, you will get the error message:

Error nineteen (19) please open the iRobot App for help. Error one nine (1-9) Please open the iRobot HOME App for help.

Once this error message pops up on your screen, you need to look for a solution immediately.

What causes this Roomba Error 19?

Roomba Error 19 usually occurs due to some issues with the Home Base. If you encounter it, you probably need to check the Home Base of the machine. However, I have listed a couple of possible causes for the error below.

Obstacles around or in front of the Home Base – You may be getting this error code because of obstacles around the Home Base of your Roomba. These obstacles stop the machine from navigating properly. To prevent this you need to ensure there is no clutter around or near the Home Base of this machine.

Infrared interference from another machine – When there is a Dual Mode Virtual Wall Barrier, Virtual Wall Lighthouse™, or another Home Base positioned within 2.5m or 8ft of the Home Base of your Roomba while it is trying to dock, it may cause an infrared interference. When this happens, you are likely to get the error code 19.

The Home Base of your Roomba is not positioned well – You may be getting the error 19 because of the positioning of the Home Base of your Roomba. The Home Base should be placed on a hard, level surface against a wall. The machine should have a clear path to the Home Base. You should place the Home Base at least 4 ft or 1.2 m from any stairs.

If your Roomba is not starting on a Home Base, make sure that there are no obstacles in front of the starting position. Obstacles will stop the Roomba from being able to go back to the original starting position once the cleaning cycle is complete.

How to prevent Roomba Error 19

You can prevent this error by performing the operations below.

How to connect Roomba to Wi-Fi

You may encounter the message “There was a problem connecting to Roomba. Sorry. Please retry,” on your iRobot HOME App. When this happens, you need to ensure and perform the following simple steps to connect the robot to your home Wi-Fi network:

  • Make sure that the Home Base and robot are placed in an area with a strong Wi-Fi connection.
  • Make sure that the Wi-Fi indicator light on the robot is green. Also, follow the on-screen guide within the iRobot HOME App to connect your mobile device to your robot Wi-Fi network.
  • Now, follow the on-screen guide within the iRobot HOME App to finish the Wi-Fi setup process.
  • If you cannot find the robot in the network, reboot the robot and router. Once you finish, you need to force close the iRobot HOME App and set up the Wi-Fi again. If the problem is still there, you need to check your Wi-Fi settings on your router to verify that they are compatible with your Wi-Fi setup process.

Roomba Keeps saying Charging Error

If you are getting this charging error, it means that the battery is not detected. Therefore, the robot will not charge. When this happens, you need to check the following:

  • Make sure that your iRobot® Lithium-Ion Battery is authentic. You are likely to encounter charging errors while using counterfeit batteries.
  • Ensure that a battery is installed. Especially when you recently got a service robot, check that the original battery is installed.
  • Bring out the battery and check for anything that might be blocking the battery contacts, like the yellow battery pull tab.
  • Make sure that the battery and robot have proper contact between them. Also, gently wipe the battery contacts on both the robot and battery with lightly dampened melamine foam like a magic eraser.
  • Now, reinstall the battery and replace the bottom cover and battery door. Put the Roomba back on the Home Base® to try to charge again. If the message is still there, you need to contact iRobot Customer Care.
