Plantronics Voyager Legend vs 5200 [Side-By-Side]

Plantronics makes some of the highest quality headsets you can get. They are known for having an excellent feature-set and a high build-quality. When it comes to Plantronics Voyager Legend vs 5200, however, it can be difficult to decide between the two if you don’t know what terms to look for.

When comparing two of Plantronics most popular headsets, the Voyager Legend and the Voyager 5200, the main difference comes down to range and noise cancellation. The Legend is a more paired-down version of the Voyager 5200. The Legend offers a lot of the same features and a similar battery life than the 5200, but it has less noise cancellation and doesn’t support long range Bluetooth.

So, if you are not well versed in the field, it can be hard to know which one to buy. In this article, we will compare and contrast the Plantronics Voyager 5200 vs Legend. We will explore the difference between these two popular Plantronics headsets. We will compare their features, design, and of course, sound quality.

Plantronics Voyager 5200

Design

The Voyager 5200 is composed of a soft-touch rubberized plastic plate that feels smooth to the touch. On the rear of the headset, you will find the power button, a micro USB charging port, and a charge/pair status LED. You can find the volume buttons on the top side of the device.

The bottom of the headset reveals the call/Bluetooth pairing button. There is also a mute button mounted a little further up from there, and of course, a microphone.

Comfort

This headset is very comfortable. The device wraps around the user’s ear and can be used on the left or right ear with no difference in performance. The Plantronics Voyager 5200 can be worn with sunglasses, no issue. The earpiece is constructed of a silicone-rubber that makes it resistant to sweat. The headset includes 3 different sizes of earpieces. This is a little touch, but it ensures a comfortable fit.

Pairing and Use

Pairing this device is very easy. When the headset is initially powered on, the LED will flash. Once it’s flashing, all you have to do is press and hold the call button for a few seconds.

Then, go into your phone’s Bluetooth settings and search for a new device. You will see ‘PLT-v5200’. That is your headset. Follow the on-screen instructions on your phone, and that’s how to pair a voyager 5200 headset.

  • Press the power button to turn the headset on or off
  • To answer the call, just tap the call button once
  • If you need to mute your mic, just tap the mute button and the headset will respond with ‘mute on’

Battery Life

Compared to most headsets, the Plantronic Voyager 5200 has very good battery life. With this headset, you can expect around 7 hours of talk time. It takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge the device.

Range

The Voyager 5200 headset is what is called a ‘Bluetooth class 1’ device. This means that it has up to a 98 feet Bluetooth range. It is important to note, however, that in order to get this range, your phone also needs to be a Class 1 Bluetooth device. If your phone is not class 1 Bluetooth, then the maximum of the Voyager 5200 headset will be Bluetooth’s usual 33 feet or so.

Sound Quality

The Voyager 5200 has excellent sound quality. This device has ‘WindSmart’ technology which is basically Plantronics brand name they have given to the proprietary fabric it uses on its headsets. This is used to block wind and other noises from the mic while allowing your voice to come through clearly.

Noise Cancellation

As with most high-end Bluetooth headsets, the Voyager 5200 has multiple microphones used for active noise cancellation. But unlike most headsets, the Voyager 5200 includes 4 microphones. As a result, noise cancellation performance is excellent. The headset is able to block just about all outside noise.

Like its Voyager 5200 cousin, this headset has call and mute buttons on the reverse of the mic boom.

Fit

This Voyager Legend is very comfortable. Most of the buttons on this headset are located behind the ear. This headset is designed so that it doesn’t interfere with wearing glasses.

This cannot be said about most Bluetooth headsets. Like its 5200 counterparts, this headset can also be worn either on the left or right ear. It also includes the same 3 different sizes of earpieces.

How to Pair The Voyager Legend

The Voyager Legend uses the same pairing procedure as the Voyager 5200 headset.
