Fitbit Versa Not Tracking Sleep | What To Do

The Fitbit versa sleep tracking feature can seem unreliable. Do you know it doesn’t consider a nap of less than an hour as sleep? Even when it monitors sleep and you are having a restless night, your tracker would consider it as an activity.

However, your Fitbit versa is not tracking your sleep correctly because it can only monitor its pre-programmed parameters. Set your watch to meet your sleep expectations by reducing sleep sensitivity. Furthermore, wear your Fitbit snugly so its readings become consistent.

If you want to improve the sleep track feature, set sleep goals that balance your lifestyle. The end game is good health, so do not take a significant non-activity like sleep as irrelevant. Read below how your Fitbit tracks your sleep, why it stops, and simple troubleshooting techniques.

Fitbit Versa Not Tracking Sleep

The Fitbit is not tracking your sleep because you need to configure the sleep settings. Also, we cannot over-emphasize the importance of wearing your watch snugly. It helps your tracker gather reliable and adequate data for your sleep analysis report.

To better understand how your Fitbit produces its analysis, let’s talk about its parameters. The Fitbit detects sleep after about one hour of no movement. You are wondering, what if I take a power nap for 30-45 minutes? Sorry to disappoint you, the tracker would only start counting after an hour. Let’s discuss in detail how to troubleshoot your watch when it stops tracking sleep.

 Sleep Sensitivity Mode

The Fitbit versa comprises of two varied sleep sensitivity modes; the normal setting and the sensitive setting. For individuals to complain about how the tracker monitors their sleep, this is the first go-to troubleshooting technique. Restless sleepers, who turn and probably sleepwalk, would need to switch to normal mode.  It is because the sensitive mode tracks every hand or body movement as an activity. So if you are asleep yet you toss a lot, your tracker would make a report of you not sleeping at all.

On the other hand, light to normal range sleepers can use the sensitive or normal mode. It is because they would not move so much and get the right readings. To modify these settings, please follow these instructions. The modification would not work for an Android mobile phone.

Step 1: Open the Fitbit app

Step 2: Select your “Profile” icon

Step 3: Click on Advanced setting> sleep sensitivity> choose an either normal or sensitive option.

Alternatively, you can change sensitivity settings on your PC. Follow the steps below.

  1. Login on your Fitbit account via the Fitbit website; Fitbit.com
  2. Click Dashboard> Gear>settings
  3. From the settings menu, search through for the “Sleep Sensitivity” option.
  4. Click on normal mode or “sensitive” mode.
  5. Select “Submit” to apply the new setting

You can also manually make modifications to your Fitbits sleep analysis. Select start on your Fitbit app on your smartphone at the beginning of a nap or night rest, and choose stop when you wake up. It is accurate and reliable because it covers the correct number of hours you sleep. You can further edit your sleep report when you observe it as inconsistent.

Directions to alter sleep logs are below.

  • Open the Fitbit icon on your smartphone
  • Click on “Sleep Tile”
  • Pick the night you wish to edit
  • Click on the dots to expand and amend the option you selected
  • Select the periods you were asleep or awake
  • Click on “Save” to apply changes.

The manual input is best for individuals who do not like the auto-tracking system. You will have to go login and put your sleep details on your account. However, we do not recommend it because your Fitbit can only track your sleep information, such as patterns and stages.

Why Is My Fitbit Versa Not Tracking Sleep Stages?

Your verse is not tracking sleep stages because the reports are inconsistent. Another reason is manual input into the sleep log when you have turned off the automatic settings and decide to monitor your own. The Fitbit verse calculates sleep in varied stages by measuring body movements and heart rate. After an hour if no motion, your tracker begins to record sleep logs. The verse also observes the difference in heart rates or durations of movements.

The rates change between light or deep sleep. When you wake up, you can synchronize your watch and look at your entire cycle. However, you may see patterns instead of stages in the reports. Below are examples of these exceptions:

  1. Your tracker was unable to get reliable heart rate reports. It can happen when you lay down on place your hand in an awkward position. Also, when you do not wear your versa snugly.
  2. If you start the sleep cycle manually by activating the “Begin sleep now” setting. The tracker would pause and allow you to turn it off when you wake. Instead of doing this, wear your Fitbit versa and go to bed.
  3. If you sleep less than an hour
  4. If your Fitbit battery is low, it automatically shuts off background activities.

You can improve and track sleep stages using these methods;

Turn On Other Sleep Settings

The Fitbit versa keeps track of a lot of details, as you sleep. It can help you improve your sleep habits. Do you know you can set a mild alarm to wake you at your pre-set time? The sleep settings include;

Step 1: Open the Fitbit icon on your smartphone.

Step 2: Click on “Sleep Tile”

Step 3: Select the “Gear” option

Step 4: Next, modify your sleep goals to suit your lifestyle.

Restart your device

As always, when you notice any abnormalities in your device, reboot it.

  • Open the Fitbit app on your smartphone
  • “Force Quit” cause the app to close abruptly
  • Reboot your Fitbit verse thrice, back to back.
  • Deactivate your Bluetooth connection
  • Turn off your smartphone
  • Please turn it on after a minute or two and activate Bluetooth
  • Open the Fitbit app

Why Didn’t My Fitbit Track My Sleep Last Night

Your Fitbit may not track your sleep for several reasons

  1. Your Fitbit versa is not in sync with the app.
  2. You need to clean your Fitbit’s sensors.
  3. Your Fitbit versa is not getting accurate readings, so wear the tracker in another hand.
  4. Your tracker battery is too low.
  5. You need to configure your sleep sensitivity mode so it can collate accurate reading
  6. You click on the manual sleep log.
  7. The heart rate settings may be system automatically switched off
  8. You need to restart your tracker
  9. You have to install and uninstall fit bit
  10. Your Fitbit requires a factory reset.

We have further addressed a few of these reasons and how to rectify them.

Sync

When you wake up after a night’s rest, it is crucial to sync the app’s tracker. Suppose you look through the sleep log and notice some days missing; synchronize both first.

To sync manually; Click on the Fitbit app on your smartphone, click on the “Sync Now” button.

Clean

Wipe your tracker and remove all dirt, dust, oil, or sweat. Buildup of any contaminants can cause the sensors to respond poorly. The watch is waterproof, so wipe with clean water and mild cleansers. We advise you not to use soap or creams on your device. Tattooed covered skin can also be less sensitive to your versa sensors. Place the tracker on areas that do not have any sweat or oils.

No matter the position, you turn the watch to stay, wear it, so it’s snug on your wrist. Some people attach their Fitbit to necklaces when they want to sleep. The sensors do not have direct access to blood capillaries or contact to your skin this way.Try wearing it on your hand and see the difference in readings.

Conclusion

The Fitbit versa sleep monitoring may be inaccurate due to software issues or incorrect usage. You can troubleshoot using the different steps above. Restoring factory settings is also a troubleshoot option; however, it’s not a typical go-to option because it wipes off all your data. Sometimes, simple acts like cleaning your Fitbit can solve its issue.
