Discussed below are the methods and procedures you may follow to clear error code 91:

Method 1: Restarting

A considerable number of players have been able to clear error Code 91 Fortnite Mobile, or on any other gaming device for that matter, by just rebooting the device. To do this, you need to click on the menu icon, positioned on the top-right corner of the game window.

From this menu, you should select the Power button in order to exit your game session. Next, you need to shut the device down and unplug the power cord from the power outlet socket. Allow the console or gaming PC to remain disconnected for a few minutes, and then plug it back in.

Power the device back on, start the Epic Launcher, and then launch the Fortnite game. You should then click on the ‘Plus’ icon at the empty slots on either side of your character, and invite friends from the list that comes up. If you are still getting the code 91 error message, you should consider removing the friends you do not play with from the list.

Method 2: Verify Game Files

You may be getting the error code 91 notification simply because the game files in your device are yet to be verified. This problem is prevalent in Windows as well as on PS4, and Xbox One consoles. To clear the Fortnite error code 91, in this case, you need to verify your game files.

Verifying game files compares the Fortnite game files installed on your device to those of the latest game version. If they differ, the process will replace or add the files accordingly. The procedure for verifying Fortnite game files varies from one gaming device to another, as follows:

How to Verify Fortnite Game Files on Windows

From your game directory, open the ‘VANILLA’ folder and copy the file titled “pakchunk0-Windows-Client.pak”. Having copied the e-file to the clipboard, navigate to the following location: This PC > Local Disk(C:) > Program, and open the folder named ‘Paks’.

Paste the file you copied from the Vanilla folder into the Paks folder. Now open the ‘Epic Game Launcher’ on your computer, and navigate to Settings. Next, you need to select the ‘Library’ from the left pane. This operation will display all the games installed through the launcher.

Click on the three-dot icon next to the Fortnite game on this list, and then select ‘Verify’ from the context menu that appears. Once the verification is completed, close the window and restart the computer.

How to Verify Fortnite Game Files of PS4 and Xbox One

Earlier in this post, I stated that the Fortnite error code 91 can be triggered by broken files. Well, this method shows you how to remedy the corrupted files.

To clear error code 91 on Xbox One and PS4 consoles, you need to verify the Fortnite game files, which should be done from the launcher. To begin with, it is advisable to first restart the device to enhance the chances of success.

Once the console has restarted, navigate to your game Library through the launcher, and locate the Fortnite game. Now click on the three-dot icon adjacent to the Fortnite game to reveal the Options context menu. Select ‘Verify’ from the drop-down options menu.

Depending on how large the files are, it may take some time for the verification process to complete. Allow the device ample time to complete the verification process. Once done, restart the game and launch Fortnite to check whether Error code 91 has cleared.

Method 3: Join a Party From Your Epic Friends List

Error code 91 means that you can not join parties using conventional methods. The most effective workaround for this problem is to try and join the party you are interested in from your Epic Friends List. To begin with, you need to add your friends to your Epic Account.

In order to do this, you will need to login to your account using your credentials. Once you have added them to your friends list, you can easily invite them to join a party, as illustrated below:

Step One: Add Friends to Your Epic Account

Launch Fortnite on your gaming device, and open the Fortnite menu. Next, navigate to the Friends tab, and select the ‘Add Friends’ option. At this point, you will be required to enter either the Epic username or email address in order to send a friend request.

Step Two: Try to Join the Party

Once your friend has accepted the friend request you sent, try to join the party and see if the error message will resurface. For Xbox One users, you should use your friend’s Xbox Gamer tag to add them on Fortnite.

Method 4: Clear the Cache and Delete Temporary Game Files

Just as is the case with other video games, Fortnite stores temporary files and data in order to improve gameplay. If this temporary data happens to be corrupted, you may also be unable to join parties on Fortnite.

If the cached data is corrupted, you may also encounter connectivity issues and unsuccessful game loads. To fix such issues, you need to clear the cache on your console or verify the integrity of your game files on PC. Depending on the gaming platform you are using, here is how you should go about it:

Clear Cache and Delete Temporary Fortnite Files on Xbox One

Clearing the Cache

As opposed to the Xbox 360, the Xbox One does not have a menu option for clearing the cache. To clear the cache, turn the console off, and wait for the indicator lights on the console, and the power brick to go off. Once off, unplug the power brick from the console, as illustrated by the Xbox One user manual.

Allow the device to sit for about 30 seconds, before inserting the power brick into its slot and powering the device back on. This operation will clear the cache on your Xbox One console. Next, you need to delete your game data from the hard drive.

Deleting Temporary Game Files

From the Xbox Home, navigate to Settings >System >Storage. Select the ‘Manage Storage’ option towards the right-hand side of the screen and then select ‘View Contents’. Highlight the Fortnite game, press the Menu button, and select ‘Manage Game’. On the left side, select ‘Saved Data’s, and choose the game to access its saved data. You may now use the Options Menu to view more file information and delete it.

Clear Cache and Delete Temporary Fortnite Files on PlayStation 4

Step 1: Clearing the Cache

Just as is the case with the Xbox One console, PS4 consoles do not have a menu option for clearing the cache. To clear the cache on your PS4 console, you need to power it off (do not enter the Rest Mode).

Wait until the indicator light on top of the console stops blinking to unplug the power cord from the back of the console. Allow the console to sit disconnected for about 30 seconds. You should then plug the power cord back into the console and power it back on.

Step 2: Deleting Saved Game Data

This operation is aimed at deleting the game saves, player profiles, and other data that is automatically saved to the hard disk during gameplay. At the top of your Dashboard, open the Settings menu, and then navigate to Storage >System Storage.

Next, select ‘Saved Data’ and then choose the Fortnite game to access its saved data. Now press the Options button, and select the Delete option. You should then select the saved data files you would like to delete, and select Delete once again.

Method 5: Switch Game Privacy Settings to Private

If the above-described methods have not paid off, this one my does the trick. The objective here is to have the party host set the game privacy to ‘Private’. Since you are the one trying to Jain a party, you need to have the party host do the following:

Step 1: click on the three horizontal lines located at the top-right corner of the Fortnite main menu screen. This should display the Privacy option towards the left side of the list that pops up after clicking.

Step 2: Select the Privacy option to expand the menu. Now set the Privacy settings to ‘Private’.

Once you are done, try inviting the players who were getting the “The party is currently not responding to join request. Please try again later” error message. To enhance the chances of success, the players also need to set their privacy to Private before attempting to join the party.

Final Verdict

The inability to join your friend’s parties on the Fortnite game may be caused by several things, such as unverified game files, wrong privacy settings, and server issues. If the problem is the developer’s servers, you just have to wait for the problem to be resolved. If it is any of the other causes, you should be able to clear the Fortnite error code 91 on your own using the steps illustrated in this guide.
