TikTok is fast becoming one of the biggest growing social media apps in the world. There are so many great entertainers, Hollywood celebrities, authors, and more that you may want to follow. But what is the limit, how many people can you follow on TikTok?
Just like Instagram and Facebook, there is a set maximum of content creators you can follow on TikTok.
The most you can follow on TikTok is 10,000 creators. After that, you have reached the maximum and you can’t follow anymore unless you unfollow some to open space.
Going onto the app and clicking “Follow” on too many people in one day will give you an error message.
You’ll have to slow down and be careful because the app may see your actions as “bot-like” which can affect your account. How do you follow all your favorite people without getting the error message?

How Many TikTok Accounts Can You Follow Per Day? Per Hour?
If you’ve ever wondered how many people you can follow in a day, the answer is about 200. Once you have reached this limit you will be greeted with a message that states “You’re Following Too Fast.” If you get this message you won’t be able to follow anyone else until after a “cooldown period.”
This also equates to about 23 to 30 people you can follow in one hour. Once you go over that amount, you’ll likely get the following too-fast message.
Sometimes you might even get a Shadowban on your account. While Tiktok doesn’t officially acknowledge they do this, many creators have seen the effects. Examples are extremely low views, reduced interactions, and not showing up on people’s FYP.
Once you have reached the limit, some people get around this by opening up separate accounts. They will use these accounts to watch more creators. In essence, they can follow more than the limit of 10K, but how do they remember all the different creators?
Tiktok has set these limits to block marketers and others from spam liking thousands of people in an effort to get a bunch of likes back in a short period of time.
How Long Until The ‘You’re Following Too Fast’ Message Goes Away?
Once you get the “You’re Following Too Fast” message, all you can do is wait until it goes away. How long that takes depends on how fast you start following people again and how many people you try to follow at once.
Usually, the message will go away after a few minutes and you can follow people once again, but you still will not be able to go beyond the 200-per-day limit.
When you end up getting that message, the best thing to do is wait until the next day to start following people again. Otherwise, if you get the message more than once per day, the ban will last longer each time you get the “following too fast” message.
Does Following A Bunch Of People Trigger Shadowbans?
Following too many people too fast, or spam following can trigger a shadowban. TikTok works hard to block the bots—sometimes a little too hard. Many regular creators end up getting shadowbanned for normal behavior.
Spam liking is one way to get shadowbanned because you are acting like a bot. Even doing something like going onto a creator’s page and liking too many of their videos in a short time is enough to get you shadowbanned.
We know it’s exciting when you find a bunch of people with amazing content, you just want to show them some love. But you have to do it in moderation.
Is There a Way To Push Pass TikTok Follow Limits?
Tiktok has a strict limit on how many accounts you can follow, and as of 2022, there is no way to follow more than 10K creators. This is more than Facebook and Instagram which have to follow limits of 5,000 and 7,500 respectively.
Besides, if you were maxed out, and you watched one 15-second video from each of the accounts you follow, it would take you over 40 hours to get through them all. Following more than 10,000 people really isn’t that feasible.
There are a few ways to get around the hard limit though. You can make separate accounts, though each one is capped at the following 10K people, then you have to switch between them, so this way really isn’t ideal.
With so many accounts you’re following, chances are there will be some that are no longer active. They could have been banned, the creator quit TikTok, or something else.
When the accounts are gone, they still show up on your following page. The way to find these inactive accounts is to look for the ones that no longer have a profile picture. Just remove all of these, then you have space to follow more people.
Follow/Unfollow On TikTok – Good Or Bad?
The TikTok Follow/Unfollow tactic is a spammy way to gain followers quickly. What people do is follow as many accounts as they can in hopes that people—being nice—will follow them back. Next, you unfollow all these accounts and follow the max again.
Some people even use apps or bots to make the process easier. While you will end up with a lot of followers quickly this way, it’s not the best way to get proper engagement on your videos, and it can ultimately hurt you in the long run.
If TikTok finds out what you are doing, you could get your account suspended or banned for this behavior, plus you will be gaining a bunch of followers that may not be interested in your content.
When there is little engagement with your content, you end up getting punished. When your followers don’t watch or comment on your videos, it sends negative information to TikTok, and the algorithm will end up stopping or burying your videos.
The Follow/Unfollow tactic can help you initially, but the spammy behavior could ultimately be a negative on your account. What you are truly looking for are natural, organic followers and engagement. That is what gets higher views and more followers.
What To Do if You Haven’t Reached the Follow Limit and Can’t Find Anyone To Follow
Let’s say you know you haven’t followed 10K people on TikTok but you’re still unable to follow anyone else. If this happens it could be a processing error. The cache saves a lot of user information, and it could be relaying errors to TikTok servers.
You’ll need to clear the cache on the app to start following people again. To do this open up your TikTok app and go to your PROFILE.
From there tap the three lines icon in the top right-hand corner of your screen. This opens a small menu. Look for SETTINGS AND PRIVACY and tap it.
Now all you have to do is scroll down until you see the CACHE & CELLULAR bar. Now tap on FREE UP SPACE.
Here you will see an icon that states CLEAR CACHE, just tap that, confirm your choice then for extra measure, restart your phone.
Unfortunately, when something gets meteoric fame in a short time, spammers show up in hordes.
To battle, these bots and spammers the app has to put limits. A lot of these limits restrict how much and how fast you can follow other creators. Because of that, you are limited to following 10,000 users total, with a limit set at 200 per day.
When you think about it, it’s not a bad thing, especially since TikTok lets you follow more than Facebook and Instagram.
